The children had so much fun last time we were in Japan and have wanted to come back. Their request hasn't been possible until recently when Japan decided to reopen up its borders. Most of my travel bookings have been pretty last minute and hasty. For example, we booked our trip to Colombia less than a week before leaving. Japan on the other hand was the opposite and wins for the ticket booked the longest before our actual flight, but, in some ways equally impulsive. When we heard the borders were going to open I thought it was the ideal time to buy tickets before prices went up and bought for a future date from a location I thought we would go to. But here we are in Japan and glad for the impulsive purchase.
We spent five days exploring the city of Tokyo and staying in what was one of the smallest (yet so cozy) accommodations we have ever stayed in as a family. Jet lag hit us hard the first couple of days so we learned quickly where we could find breakfast as early as possible. We made the most of our five days and did a lot of walking. We strolled through temples, crossed at the world's busiest pedestrian intersection, gawked at the futility of claw machines, immersed ourselves in the interactive Team lab gallery, went to an adventure playground, went climbing, made new friends, visited a stationery shop that was 12 floors tall, ate a vegan dinner at an esperanto cafe, got inspired at the Hokusai museum, visited numerous playgrounds, spent our evenings immersed in origami, and ate vegan ramen in the train station. We have all had to get used to the weather feeling wintry, not talking on metros, not eating on the go, wearing masks everywhere again, trying not to lose our masks everywhere, and expecting to find garbage bins. But after five fun days in Tokyo we are over our jetlag, properly attired, reused to customs and ready to take on Osaka.

Tova adored this temperature monitor. She dicovered that her temperature varied slightly as she removed her mask, then her hood, then her hat, then I insisted we leave... |

I really was impressed by how tidy the homeless set ups were in Tokyo |

Paddling in that barrel looks like a ton of fun!
ReplyDeleteIt did look fun but wobbly enough that I decided to be too adult to try!
