Canberra's
been a very comfortable city to live in, like a warm womb of coffee shops,
playgrounds, and nature trails. Sometimes we were so comfortable it was
aggravating, and we wished our lives had more of just the right kind of
hardship - the kind that adds spice and spontaneity, like on a TV sitcom. And
so just as Zadie has left her warm cocoon so are we venturing out of
Canberra. Though as it turns out, our
path eastward is one of more cosy peaceful locations.
We're now
on the Sunshine Coast once again, literally across the street from the beach.
After the frenzy of packing, cleaning and traveling, we were relieved to settle
into a slower groove - our days are a gentle progression of hiking to
waterfalls, getting knocked over by waves, buying masses of mangoes, litchis
and passionfruit, and occasionally doing some homework (which we call 'smarts'
to soften the blow). One of Jakob's high school friends is visiting so we've
had lots of jolly conversations, colourful meals and Mastermind showdowns. The
Sunshine Coast climbing gym has auto-belay, meaning the girls can scamper up
and down the walls unhindered by belaying parents - Aurora did thirty-five
climbs yesterday!
There's
more than a fortnight of baby-cuddling, sand-castle-digging and smoothie-making
ahead of us, so lots to look forward to…
