In the Shipment

Before we left Canada we figured that we would be coming out to Australia and finding a place to live immediately. Since we were offered a small air shipment we jumped on the chance to lower our furnishing costs and had them pack up some household items. And every month the shipping company sends us a note to ask what they should do with the shipment. And every month we think about it and decide to not think about it. It has been in their warehouse long enough that we have for a while now been paying for them to store the shipment because really the thought of more things with us is appalling.

This has become a running joke in our family. When the kids ask about a toy they remember or a book they like and ask where it went I usually reply "it's in the shipment." After saying these words enough times they have become really funny and so anything being in the shipment has become cause for laughter. And the shipment has become a mythical humourous part of our lives. Really we don't lack for anything and our lives are fine without the shipment so we have resigned ourselves to letting the shipment remain a family joke.

Except looks like we will now be in Canberra for a while. Months even. And so we decided what the heck let them send the shipment over because it would be nice to squeeze in a camping trip before winter settles in. We don't even entirely remember what is in the shipment which has made it even more magical. Aurora and Sophia have high hopes for whatever we hastily put inside seven months ago. On the other hand I am also sad to let go of our family mystery box. Sometimes a bit of mystery and humour are just as good as the actual thing.
