And here we are in Sydney! When I was in labor with Aurora I had no idea
what to expect. It was intense but I kept waiting for the moment to
come when I would scream out for drugs and wish it all away. When the
midwife finally arrived she observed me for a while and finally decided
she needed more information to know how imminent labor was - she
suspected I still had hours left. And then I was actually 9 cm. I know
you must be thinking what does this have anything to do with air travel.
But this is exactly how I felt today. I was daunted by the hours of
plane time ahead. Our bags were loaded with snacks and toys and magic
tricks and we were wearing our best grin and bear it expressions. We got
onto our second and longer flight (15.5 hours of Pacific crossing) and busily began putting children to sleep to
make the flight more bearable. And we all snoozed off and on as long as
we wished or could bear. And then when I could no longer stand another
minute with my eyes shut and Tova lying on my chest breastfeeding I
looked at the screen and there were only 4 hours left! That wasnt too
bad at all! And much like childbirth I would do it again. Much like
childbirth all the hassle and stress and exhaustion were worth the
miracle of arriving on another continent, another hemisphere, another
day. Plus it was way easier than childbirth.
