Month two: Coffee and exercise

Here we are in month two of lockdown and plodding along. It is school holidays but really our days are similar to before the holidays minus the online learning. So this school holidays we are enjoying the separation from our electronic devices and trying to embrace the extra aimlessness. Tova and Zadie like to go play in the car sort of school holidays. We finally have time to really do a Spring cleaning of our house but we are still in the contemplation phase of that task. But some good has come of all these rules. Our children have by default been afforded more independence. We are allowed to socialize with others but in groups of 5 or less. This is a rule that was obviously made with the mental health of the young and elderly in mind as a family of our size has no chance of socializing. So, the kids go out on their own to see friends now. Tova, always desperate for independence, is thrilled to exclude her parents from playdates. Sophia has taken to meeting friends in outdoor spaces to do gymnastics and Aurora, always our least eager for independence, now plans and leads her own social life. Zadie is stuck with us. I am happy that they have the free time to bicycle and that all their socializing takes place outdoors.

The mask rules are sometimes funny. We walk around outdoors with masks on even though there is no one really around us (this is Canberra after all) and then as soon as we get to a busy outdoor spot by a cafe everyone removes their masks to socialize and drink. Similarly, when our pace is slow and our breathing peaceful we wear masks but as soon as our heart rate picks up and we are 'exercising' we can remove them no matter the crowd size. What this means for us is that Jakob  is frequently drinking a coffee when walking and I revel in any exercise even more. But despite all the beautiful nature pictures I have added a more real life set of photos. They are heavy on Tova as locking this child down is leading to all sorts of interesting things.

Tova has taken to map making

Aurora and I made these boxes out of cans

This was after Tova had cleaned up from her bloody nose. At least she tried.

If we can't eat bread in restaurants we will eat cake outdoors

We accidentally opened a neighbour's package.
These are Tova's attempts at writing an apology letter.
Attempt four (not pictured) was left at their door with the opened package.
It included the words 'we are not robbers'
We have not seen the neighbours since.
