While Zadie is an incredible baby and I could regale you with happy
tales of spit up and funny faces, it seems more appropriate to talk
about one of the other incredible girls we have. Sophia turned 5
yesterday. She has literally been looking forward to and talking about
her birthday since the moment the last one ended. As you can imagine, over a
year's time she developed quite the itinerary of all the wonderful things
she could do or eat on the magical day when she transformed into a five
year old. I didn't want to disappoint her so I prepared her for the
possibility of birth, or recovery, or extreme fatigue usurping some of
her plans. And then Zadie so considerately arrived a week early. And
Sophia is such a sweet child and such a good-natured trooper about most
everything that I thought, newborn or not, this is an important day for
Sophia so let's treat it that way. I even went so far as to invite other
children over for a little cookie decorating party.
While
playing glow-in-the-dark mini golf with a newborn was a bit exhausting,
it was worth all of Sophia's smiles. While I might not have chosen to
spend baby napping time making cookies, that too was worth it. And while I am
already cringing at having to travel with the little guitar Jakob got
her I am sure that will also be worth it when she can serenade me to
sleep.
