Weather gods

There is a smug satisfaction involved in good weather holidays. Aside from the fact that everything is cheerier and brighter with the sunshine along, there is also the practical matter of things being easier in good weather. This is especially true for folks like us who mostly opt for outdoor activities. And we were ever so thankful that we had lovely weather for our Byron Bay getaway. Nice clear skies to watch a sunrise from. Nice clear skies to make a habit of watching sunsets on the beach. Nice cheery blue to kayak and hike under. Nice terraces full of nice people drinking cold drinks. And everyone around us was so jolly about it too. The kayak tour guide mentioned repetitively that we must be lucky as it was the best weather day of the season so far. And lucky we were as the whales and dolphins seemed to be reveling in the sunshine as well. A whale swam right under our kayaks, coming up on the other side to share its joy. A pod of dolphins frolicked around our kayaks squeaking in delight. A pair of snakes squiggled around on the trail in front of us letting us know this was the kind of weather for sunbathing. A spider fatally bit Jakob on the temple most cheerfully.

What made it all the better - like winning the lottery really - was the fact that it rained the week preceding our visit and the rain started up again the day we left. How can that not make you feel special? And then Jakob looked up the forecast in New Caledonia and triumphantly notified me that they were having a week of rain. Seems like the sun is on our side. So we have come home nicely browned (or in my case pinked), healthy and happy looking, smelling of ocean and sunshine, and feeling like winners.

Easternmost point of Australia!
