Armchair ornithologists

While living on the second floor has its disadvantages - things have to be carried up the stairs often- it also has its advantages. Our living room window is right at tree level so we get to watch the endless bird dramas and interactions that unfold. In Canberra the most common kind of bird to see are parrots which have really been brightening up our winter living. There is something very soothing about sitting on the couch reading a book to little kids with a crew of vibrant chattering parrots listening in.

Aurora was given binoculars and a Australian bird app for her birthday. While she does bring them along on hikes they have proven very useful in the house too. She can sit in the warm cozy house spying on birds, looking closely at their features so she can identify them. If only we had been spendy enough to buy a better lens for our camera!

  1. Great that Aurora is using the app! She was a keen birder when we were there in the spring.

    1. Yup she really likes it and I am learning too. We saw/heard a lyrebird and she remembered it from when you showed it to her.
