Wearing underwear on Great Ocean Road

A few months ago I thought to myself that it would be wonderful to not have to buy diapers anymore so I told Tova that if she peed in the toilet she could have chocolate chips. And she liked that idea. She told her sisters about it often. She even sat on the potty and squealed things about 'chipchipchips.' But when it came down to it she really didn't care for the whole notion of potty training and let me know that "me pee in diaper not in toilet."

In Parramatta I decided to buy a potty and see if that might help get the message across. Tova really liked the potty and toted it around the house and put her toys in it and used it as a hat and yelled at her sisters if they tried to play with it.

And so I tried a different approach and bought Tova underwear and put them on her. And she peed in them regularly - meaning she peed on the carpet and couch and whatever was under her.
And then one day she managed to pee in the park and it was an epiphany. She just had no idea how to make the golden chocolate chip yielding fluid flow. And of course this epiphany happened about two days before our week vacation.

And this is just it about traveling - you realize that there is never a perfect time. Sure you are going to be in some awkward situations but really is there any alternative? And wouldn't we rather feel awkward and laugh about it later than stay cosy and have nothing to laugh about. And so Tova traveled in underwear. She proudly wore them up cradle mountain, in airplanes, long car rides, down slides, in restaurants. After the long prelude I figured there might still be months of diaper purchases but all she needed was a little epiphany and some good natured faith in her abilities.

Our week was amazing and filled with natural wonders and good company: Splashing in the waves under the apostles, spotting koalas on hikes, eating and chatting in crowded holiday parks, sunning on the beaches was all amazing. But our Tova was brilliant.
