Living Light

When we left Canada we assumed that there would be an air shipment accompanying us. As such we didn't bring too much: two suitcases, a garment bag, a carry-on bag and a backpack (and a stroller and carseats). This felt like a lot moving it through the airports but for a family of five it really isn't so much and is significantly less than most families of five take on holiday. And the thing is we really don't miss anything (well maybe our camping gear would be nice). The shipment is still sitting in Montreal but as time passes without it we become less and less likely to have it sent. It is comforting to wear the same few outfits over and over again. Realistically, our kids always had their preferred clothing and they don't seem to miss the others. We have a handful of stuffed animals and toys and that is really enough. The girls just end up playing with each other and the things around them anyhow.

Things have a way of accumulating. Even now while we are very careful not to increase our amount of stuff  we invariably multiply. Our pizza at the pottery festival came with a handmade bowl, the children won a small library of books, a festival gave out water bottles and balls....As we gear up for another move we are slowly slimming down to the necessities once again. It is nice to see how little we need to be happy!
