It sounds like a colorful
profanity but it's not. It is really a beautiful word but not nearly as
beautiful as the mountain it is named after. Obviously, as soon as we
heard about its existence we wanted to experience the great Kozzie
firsthand. We thought we would wait for the snow to melt but then a
work colleague offered us access to a ski lodge and what sort of
Canadians would we be to shy away from snow - or an empty ski lodge for
that matter. So while all our friends are dreading the approach of
winter we hunted it down and reveled in its last glimmery offerings of
the year.
Kozzie did not disappoint in any way. The weather
gods were on our side and so were the weird angelic non-complaining
children that took over the bodies of our own. Well, except for Tova,
she fended off any angelic takeovers with her strong kicks and yelps.
And so we sat on top of Australia and can now claim to have gotten the
upper hand of this large wild country. I take my hat off to the Snowy
Mountains because they were awesome. What lucky folks we are that we
could as a family stroll in an alpine zone on the most beautiful of days
to the highest mountain peak in Australia.
After taking the
chair lift we had 14.5 km to walk. Aurora thought this was a walk in the
park and was still full of energy by the end. We have thus renamed her
kangarora. Sophia walked more than she ever has in her life - all the
way up unassisted and much of the way down (about 12 km). And she kept
repeating how lucky we were to be in such a beautiful place with such a
nice sun. And we all felt pretty pleased and impressed with ourselves by
the end of the weekend. And impressed with Australia.
