We were forewarned that Melbourne had bad weather, and so far it
seems to be true. Well really it hasn't been too bad. A bit cloudy and
rainy. A bit cold. But we can call it nicely shaded and fresh and carry
on with our day. The bigger surprise is how undependable the weather can
be. In Singapore you never have to think twice about what to wear - you
know it is going to be hot and humid and there is no risk of getting
cold. But in Melbourne even on a sunny day it can turn windy, rainy, or
cold within minutes so that you bring layers no matter what it looks
like outside the window. The other thing that seems to be a trend (well
so far anyhow) is that the weekdays are cold and rainy and the weekends
are warm and sunny. Which makes us feel that even when it is cloudy the
heavens are on our side.
We took advantage of our warm
beautiful weekend to be outside. Our favorite activity. We had visited
an outdoor bouldering wall set up by the river along the bike path last
week and enjoyed it so much decided we had to go back. Aurora was so
eager to go back she happily agreed to walk over and hour there and an
hour back. Her eagerness to walk over 10k made me love it all the more.
Really it is such a great idea I have no idea why the rest of the world
doesn't follow Melbourne's example. Children get to have fun in
playgrounds so why shouldn't there be equivalent outdoor fun for adults.
And what fun we had! So much fun that I am thinking we need more just
like this and already have about five images of what a nice play area
for adults would look like. Bouldering and rock climbing in the city
limits are usually so expensive and indoor so how refreshing to get to
scale walls in this manner. If you had no plans to visit us before I am
sure after you see these photos we will get lots of emails with flight
itineraries.
