My first ever diet

A good friend of ours is a bit obsessed with hacking his body. There are all sorts of practices out there, ranging from what you eat, to how much you use your phone, to hanging upside down for spine extension and discharging your electrical buildup on a grounding mat. He reads a biology textbook before going to sleep every night, and is generally quite on-the-ball obsessed, rather than flaky obsessed.

So, based on a conversation Tamar had with him today, I'm going to try my first ever diet. I'm not counting the couple of diets I've completed in the past which lasted for less than three hours, between meals.

For the next week, I hereby declare myself ANTI INFLAMMATORY. This blog post is part assertion, and part infomercial for all the titillating facts about the diet which I am learning as I write it.

The anti-inflammatory diet can help with no less than 13 medical conditions. Unfortunately, I don't think I have any of them. Unless I actually have Hashimoto's Disease, in which case I'm nipping it in the bud.

Every day, I'll estimate how much of my food is in the Good Choices list, the Avoid Me list, and the Everything Else list

Good Choices: kale, spinach, blueberries, blackberries, cherries, dark red grapes, broccoli, cauliflower, beans, lentils (yesssss), green tea, wine in moderation, avocado, coconut, olives, EVOO, walnuts, pistachios, pine nuts, almonds, cold water fish incl. salmon (yes yes yes yes yes), turmeric, cinnamon, dark chocolate (whaaaat) and spices and herbs

Is this the Anti-Inflammatory Diet? Or the Expensive Indulgences I Wish I Got To Eat More Often diet? Anyway, on to the Avoid Me list.

Avoid Me: processed meats (lol), sugary drinks (last time was in 2014), trans fats, white bread, white pasta, gluten (oh no I'm going to be one of those people who isn't coeliac but still is precious about gluten!), soybean oil, vegetable oil, processed snack foods incl. crackers, desserts such as cookies, candy and ice cream (WHAT), excess alcohol and too many carbohydrates

This is probably not going to be very interesting unless someone wants to hear me gush about how much I like salmon, but the blog is kinda dormant anyway so this will keep it alive until we start our massive yearlong adventure in less than two months!

Too cool for playschool

To cool for anything
