And we have a new house! It was all both incredibly smooth and exhausting but most of our boxes were unpacked by the time we welcomed in the Jewish New Year. Now we live in a house that is split level which makes us feel very rich. We have no less than four small staircases for our three bedroom place. I will let you mull over that one to figure out how that works architecturally. I also challenge anyone to come up with the most efficient way of heating such a space because the central heating seems to be struggling - pouring heat into the top room and leaving the lower levels colder than outside air somehow. We also seem to have entered the realms of hip, sandwiched between the new foreshore development and the older but popular Kingston and right up against the bike paths and lake. We also finally got to hang up our thangkas (the last place had no hooks in any walls) which adds a splash of Nepal/Montreal hominess.
So it was sad to be forced to move and leave our old cozy place but we are all happy for the good parts of the change. The kids took it all pretty easy and don’t seem to have any nostalgia for the place they lived in for a year. Tova, always the extremist, seems to be glad to have gotten rid of the old house and pleased about getting a new one. She is also beloved by a neighbouring 4 year old who is very high energy, which works out well. So that’s one way of spring cleaning and new things for the new year!
