Putting up our feet in Kranjska Gora

 Day 20: Rest Day!

Hours walked: 0

Kilometres walked: 0

We had a slow lazy rest-day sort of morning. Aurora and Tova slept in until almost 9. The kids lounged at home playing cards while Jakob and I went for a walk and tried the local cream cake. The big girls and I hopped on a bus to Mojstrana, a small village further along the valley, to go to the alpine museum. Obviously if you can’t be in be the mountains you should go to a museum about the mountains. We did an escape room put together by the museum which was underground and which involved things like Morse code, calculating with ropes, pattern recognition and mountain mazes. We weren’t that good at the escape room but luckily it was timed to let us out anyways. As a reward for our escape we were given the keys to an old bivouac that’s been relocated to the museum grounds. The small bivouac was surprisingly cosy. It was a very beautiful and well put together museum with numerous hands on activities for the girls. I learned that Germany and Austria built many of the mountain huts in this area as a way of exerting power over the region. In response, the Slovenians went on a counter-mountain-hut-building frenzy and started an alpine club of their own. Now there are many mountain huts in these mountains. I think mountain hut warfare is probably the best kind of conflict.

Meanwhile, Tova, Zadie and Jakob got kicked out of a playground by a schoolteacher.
Tova, whose shoes were getting badly torn, got new ones: yellow, blue and bristling with tread. The girls invented a card game, used town fences as balance beams, and played basketball with pine cones.

We had dinner at Kotnik Pizzerija. The food was delicious but we ordered too much. The kids watched a couple of YouTube videos about singing families, then went to bed full of beans and noise.
