This weekend we camped at Pebbly Beach. It's cute in every way - even the name trips off the tongue. Parrots flit from branch to branch, wallabies graze on the grass above the dunes, waves shift back and forth over the rock pools. Despite being a popular beach, you can easily have a parking lot's worth of sand to yourself without having to share.
We did marvelous low-key things. Hunted for rocks in the tide pools (why are they all so beautiful in the water?) Chatted with our friends as the kids built elaborate irrigation systems in the sand. Eavesdropped on our Swedish neighbours as they bort-bort-borted outside their tent. After lunch I lay in the tent with Zadie, telling her Winnie the Pooh stories such a slow, drony voice that we both fell asleep. Tamar ran up Mt. Durras and then just kept going when she hit the summit in hopes of a better view. We coaxed campfires and roasted veggie dogs, kebabs and marshmallows.
I took it pretty easy for my back's sake, but still met some vivid memories. Aurora and I discovered the perfect tidal pool at sunset, still as a window of sky, with tiny translucent fish darting through a rectangular world that looked tended to by a Japanese gardener. Tova braved the breaking waves with me, and we made it out to the tip of the rocks with much adventure. I slept pretty lousy, but that's ok because I finished The Fifth Season, an excellent book to devour between 4:00-7:30 a.m.
And now we are back. Today was Canberra day, which we celebrated by making waffles. Then Tamar and the girls visited the Arboretum, picked apples at the orchard, and went rock climbing. I just worked, but that's ok because I have this snazzy new treadmill desk! I am ambling at 1.1 kph while I write this, and am in my 241st minute for the day. Hopefully this will usher in a new era of healthy habits, except that I already have brownie crumbs all over my desk and it hasn't even been ten hours yet.

Will the cuteness ever stop? |

When you're lying on a pristine beach with a sore back, with Zadie lying an inch from your face, it's mighty hard to feel sorry for yourself |

Tova, who is sounding more and more Australian, is even starting to look the part! |
