After some discussion we have decided to carry on with the blog. Perhaps there will be changes perhaps not. I dont really think much about how electronic our world has become and I have always felt a little hesitant about contributing to the mass of online blogs. Is it self righteous of our society to write so much about ourselves? On the other hand at least there is some thinking and writing going with a blog which is a vast improvement over other forms of social media socialisation. But really at the end of the day this is a decision of love. Love for family far away but even more so love for my husband who says that he rereads our blog entries when the going gets tough or stressful at work. How wonderful that our own lives can bring him joy in such a simple way. Somehow it has happened that Jakob will be away from us half of the winter so any extra way of sharing in our own lives is a bonus. Jakob also says that this will be very entertaining for our children one day. Which is probably true. Though a small part of me imagines Tova slamming down a 20000 page manuscript of her life in blog posts on her therapists desk proclaiming "If this isn't proof of childhood instability what is?" Then again I am happy for our kids to have that actual proof as I am a fact based person.
In exploring what is meaningful in our lives I'd like to touch on the concept of treasure. Treasure conjures up images of gold and jewellery spilling out of algae encrusted chests. But why should that be so? A few month ago I gave Tova a box and told her it was for all her treasures. She has been studiously scanning her world for things she considers treasure so she can add them to her box. Sometimes her treasures get discarded before making it into the box for hygienic reasons (an old bottle nipple found in the curb for example). And now her treasure box is very full. So I decided we should re-evaluate together what is really important so that she could have room for more treasures. Realistically, as is the case with most treasures, just having the treasure seems to be more important than using the treasure in any way. It was really interesting to see what she had accumulated. But I will let you see for yourselves how much more authentic treasures are when you are four.
