Baking season

As we enter the month of December we are all ready to don our aprons and get busy in the kitchen. We kicked off this month with some doughnuts in celebration of the Festival of Lights. Inspired by the heat wave we turned our hazelnuts into gelato. If you have ever made gelato you will know the recipe requires egg yolks so, left with numerous egg whites, we were forced to make and eat meringue. The heat has been dramatically reducing the shelf life of our bananas forcing us to eat banana bread for breakfast. This is a looking to be a hard month!

The baking has only just begun. The children have been eagerly waiting to make gingerbread men. They will soon be off school and eager to help in the kitchen -which seems to generally involve baking. We have three birthdays coming up which means we will pause our cookie eating long enough to gorge on overly sweet created-to-please cakes. Thankfully our car just broke in two (this one is unfortunately literal) so we will be forced to commute longer distances by bicycle the next little while, which should get us fit enough to have the stamina for our end of the year festive gorge.

These tasted even better than they look

We're going to see if these candles last 8 days

Holy smokes!
