School girls

Sophia has been patiently waiting for a spot to open up at Aurora's school so she too could wear the French national colours and be in kindie. We weren't sure it would happen as she has been lingering at the top of the wait list for awhile but we are relieved to now have two school children. Sophia starting school was a reminder of ow different each of our children are. She was nervous, but instead of tears she dealt with it in her more practical manner. As soon as she found out she busily scurried around the house preparing herself. She found her backpack and cleaned it out. She found the uniform she wanted to wear, folded it nicely and put it beside her bed. She had no lunch box so borrowed one from a friend. She looked through the refrigerator and then instructed me precisely on what she would have for lunch. She brought me a pen and had me write her name on all her things. She didn't want to loose a tooth on her first day so she convinced Jakob to pull it out for her. Her nervousness was so productive I had to intercept her trajectory at one point to hug her and let her know she would have a great time- to which she replied "I know." And so she started school with no big to do.

She came home from her first day excited, talking about all her new friends whose names she didn't know. She says she only understood a little of the French but it was fun because her father already told her French is more fun and so it is. I am just astounded at how easy and straightforward it all was.

It has only been a few days but I can already say that having two children at home part of the day is a lot easier than three. While Tova is incredibly jealous and desperately wants to go to kindie also she has also been more relaxed now that she doesn't have to try to keep up and compete with Sophia. She lets me know daily that she intends on going to school and is very clear to specify it will be a school where I am not there with her. Meanwhile, she has taken to wearing her sister's school uniform everywhere much to the confusion of the schoolyard staff.
